Through this program, the partnership seeks to enable AI-driven research breakthroughs, particularly those with high impact for Africa, foster sustained AI in Science research across the continent, and strengthen long-term collaboration between the University of Michigan and African scientists and institutions. The Academy aims to bridge rigorous mathematical foundations with the algorithmic principles underlying modern artificial intelligence and machine learning. Its broader vision is to cultivate a vibrant community of African AI scholars and innovators who actively contribute to shaping Africa’s AI ecosystem, rather than serving only as consumers of AI technologies.
